52nd MRC JC and 25th MRC Dialogue Partners Meetings (September 16-17, 2021)

Phnom Penh: H.E So Sophort, Secretary General of Cambodia National Mekong Committee and Member of the Mekong River Commission Joint Committee (MRC JC) for Cambodia led the Cambodia delegate composed of key officials representing Line Ministries, including Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Ministry of Mines and Energy and key Officials of CNMC General Secretariat to participate in the 52nd  MRC JC and 25th  MRC Dialogue Partners Meetings via Video Conference from the MRC Secretariat in Vientiane, Lao PDR. The Meetings were attended by 83 Officials come from the MRC JC Member countries (Cambodia, Lao PDR, Thailand, and Vietnam), Delegates of MRC Dialogue Partners (China, Myanmar) and the MRC Secretariat.

The 52nd MRC JC Meeting discussed and provided agreements on a number of key documents for enhancing operation and effectiveness within MRC cooperation and partnership framework. The Meeting reviewed the work progress in the areas of staffing, finance, Prior Consultation Process for some hydropower projects, joint study and hydrometeorological conditions in the Lower Mekong Basin, cooperation with MRC partners, updated information on preparation of sustainable hydropower development, preliminary design guidance on mainstream dams and transboundary environmental impact assessment, land use and land cover. The Meeting also informed about the 28th MRC Council Meeting in November 2021 and 4th MRC Summits in April 2023.

25th MRC Dialogue Partners Meeting, the MRC Member Countries and MRC Dialogue Partners discussed, shared and exchanged information on water resources development and management, hydrometeorological conditions in Mekong-Lancang Basins. The Meeting also discussed the needs to further strengthen regional cooperation for the sustainable development and shared prosperity in the Mekong-Lancang Basin.
