Regional Consultation Meeting on the Progress of the Pilot Study on Sustainable Groundwater Use and Management for Agriculture (September 27, 2021)

Phnom Penh: Mekong River Commission Secretariat (MRCS) had organized the Regional Consultation Meeting on the Progress of the Pilot Study on Sustainable Groundwater Use and Management for Agriculture (SGUMA) - Phase 2, which presided over and leaded the discussion by Mr. Bounttien Sanaxonh, Director of Planning Division, MRCS and participated by the EGPDs from the four member countries (Cambodia, Lao PDR., Thailand, and Viet Nam), relevant MRCS staff, and International Consultant. The EGPD from Cambodia leaded by His Excellency Mr. Kol Vathana, Deputy Secretary General of the Cambodia National Mekong Committee (CNMC) and jointed by the relevant staff from CNMCS, National Consultant and relevant staff from line agencies, including, MOWRAM, MAFF, MRD, TA, and MME.

The main objectives of the Meeting are:

(1) to present and discuss the outputs of the pilot study in each member country,

(2) to present and discuss the progress of the draft regional report, roadmap, and action plan for transboundary groundwater management for agriculture use; and

(3) to validate data and information in the regional report with the national reports. Furthermore, the Meeting will also allow both national and international consultants to exchange ideas and discuss the further steps on the groundwater modelling.
