Joint Workshop on Transboundary Water Resources Management for the Se San and Sre Pok River Basins (September 27, 2021)

Kampong Cham: The Cambodia National Mekong Committee (CNMC) and the Vietnam National Mekong Committee (VNMC) held a joint workshop on transboundary water resources management between the two countries for the Se San and Sre Pok River Basins (2S) via online Videoconference.  Excellency Te Navuth, Permanent Vice-Chairman of CNMC and Director of the Mekong Integrated Water Resources Management Project, Phase III (MIWRMP3) led the Cambodia Delegates who are project officials from CNMC and the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, as well as representatives from Technical Advisory (DHI). The Vietnamese delegation was led by Dr. Truong Hong Tien, Deputy Director-General of the VNMC.  A technical officer from the World Bank was also in attendance.

The workshop, which is part of the Mekong Integrated Water Resources Management Project Phase 3 (MIWRMP3), aims at the following objectives: 1) Exchange views on the outcomes of the World Bank-funded project on Water Resource Management in Cambodia and Vietnam. 2) Gain an understanding of the current state of Water Resource Management in both countries. 3) Discussed ways to improve cooperation on water resource development in the Se San and Sre Pok river basins (2S), such as sharing scenario analysis and development for river basin planning and mechanism development, and sharing data between the two nations for the Se San and Sre Pok river basins.

The workshop discussed and agreed to continue working together to form a joint expert working group and provide the concerns and points agreed upon to the leaders of the two Mekong National Committees for review and approval, as well as continuing to discuss at the next workshop planned to take place in October 2021.
