Excellency Minister Thor Chetha, Chairman of the Mekong River Commission (MRC) Council chaired the 30th Meeting of the MRC Council and the 28th Meeting of the Development Partner Consultative Group

Cambodia hosted the 30th Meeting of the MRC Council and the 28th Meeting of the Development Partner Consultative Group on 24 November 2023 in Siem Reap Province and the Meetings were attended by the Ministerial Delegations of the MRC Member Countries (Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam), Representatives of Development Partners, Dialogue Partners (China and Myanmar, Regional and International Organizations and the key staff of the MRC Secretariat.
The Meetings were chaired by His Excellency Thor Chetha, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology, Chairman of the Cambodia National Mekong Committee, Chairman of the MRC Council for 2023.
The Meetings reviewed and discussed the progresses and achievements of the MRC made and on-going work with the focus on the regional cooperation and key priority areas of work including the MRC water use management procedures, the preparation of proactive regional planning, the improved core river monitoring network, the preparation of the states of the basin report 2023, the joint study on the changing patterns of hydrological condition in the Mekong-Lancang River Basin and adaptation strategies and hydrological and environmental monitoring in the Lower Mekong Basin, 2023. The Meetings also discussed the Mekong Challenges, requiring to be jointly addressed through the principle of One Mekong, One Spirit for the sustainable Mekong and the sustainable development in the Mekong region.  
For his remarks at the opening, chairing and closing the Meetings, His Excellency Minister Thor Chetha, the Chairman of the MRC Council for 2023 expressed his profound thanks to the Member Countries, Development Partners, Dialogue Partners (China and Myanmar) as well as the Regional and International Organizations and the MRC Secretariat that have provided good cooperation and partnerships, assisted financially and technically and have made joint efforts which are the main key enabling the MRC have made more significant achievements for the MRC mission and objective for the sustainable development in the Mekong River Basin and the prosperity for the Basin countries and peoples. Excellency Minister, the Chairman of the MRC Council highly appreciated the progress and achievements of the Commission for 2023 resulted from the strong cooperation and partnerships and joint efforts from all parties concerned and he suggested be maintained the spirit of stronger cooperation in working together to address the current and emerging Mekong challenges more effectively and for the water secure and sustainable Mekong at present and in the future.
At the Meeting, Excellency Minister Thor Chetha, the Chairman of the MRC Council for 2023 handed over the Chairpersonship of the MRC Council from Cambodia to Excellency Madame Bounkham Vorachit, Minister of Natural Resources and Meteorology of Lao PDR, for 2024. 
Pleased be informed that i) prior to the above Meetings, Excellency Minister Thor Chetha has a bilateral talk with Excellency Madame Bounkham Vorachit, Minister of Natural Resources and Meteorology of Lao PDR on the water resources cooperation between the two countries and ii) at the 28th Meeting of the Development Partner Consultative Group, Canada announced to provide fund amounting USD 2 million to the MRC on the transboundary water governance and Germany announced to provide Euro 15 Million for the Ecosystem Window of the Mekong Fund Trial.
