Consultative Meeting on the Establishment of the Provincial Committee for River Basin Management (February 22-23, 2022)

Kampong Cham: The Cambodia National Mekong Committee (CNMC) held a consultative meeting on the establishment of the Provincial Committee for River Basin Management of the Sekong River Basin, Sesan - Sre Pok River Basin and the four Prek (4P) Basin in the northeastern region of Cambodia under the Mekong Integrated Water Resources Management Project Phase 3 (MIWRMP3), funded by the World Bank in Kampong Cham City. His Excellency Te Navuth, Permanent Vice President of CNMC and MIWRMP3 Project Director, chaired the meeting and joined by HE Pich Veasna, Undersecretary of State, Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology. And Deputy Governor of Kratie, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri provinces. Participants included HE So Sophort, Secretary General of the CNMC, Deputy Secretaries General and Officers of the CNMC, Officials from relevant ministries and agencies, including the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, Ministry of Mines and Energy. Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Planning, Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation and, national experts of the DHI Technical Advisory and  the MIWRMP3 Component 2 staff.

The meeting aimed to get recommendations on the establishment of the River Basin Management Committee in the northeastern region of the country and has been head and discussing the presentations made by the project implementation officers and the MOWRAM Officer: 1) The principles and importance of IWRM and the results of the project achieved 2) The main provisions stated in Sub-Decree No. 98, dated July 24, 2015 on the River Basin Management; 3) Conditions and mechanisms, structure, composition, roles and responsibilities of the Provincial Committee for River Basin Management of the Sekong, Sesan-Srepok and four Prek Basins. The meeting achieved good results, which will propose to the Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology and Chairman of the National Committee for River Basin Management to review and decide on the proposal to establish the Provincial committee on River Basin Management in the Northeast region at the request of MIWRMP3.
