Regional Working Session of the PNPCA JCWG on PNgHPP (August 16, 2022)

Phnom Penh: His ​​Excellency Mr. Kol Vathana, ​Deputy ​Secretary ​General of ​Cambodia National Mekong ​Committee (CNMC) and ​Chairperson of the PNPCA JCWG for Cambodia had leaded the Cambodian Working Group attended the Regional Working Session of the PNPCA JCWG on PNgHPP via Video Conference CNMC Meeting Room. The Working Session have been organized by the MRC Secretariat (MRCS), presided over and chaired by Mr Anoulak Kittikhoun, the CEO of MRCS and participated by the PNPCA JCWGs from the four member countries (Cambodia, Lao PDR., Thailand, and Viet Nam); all Directors, Chiefs, key relevant Specialists, and staff of the MRC Secretariat. The participants from Cambodia include the Cambodian PNPCA JCWG, comprises of members from CNMC, MOWRAM, MoE, MAFF, MME. and MPWT; the CNMCS PNPCA Working Group, and the National Consultants.

The objectives of the Session are (1) To be informed of and discuss the progress on clarification and information available on the key questions raised at the 1st Preparatory Meeting of the JCWG and remaining gaps; and (2)   To discuss technical issues for the review.

As a result, The Session had reviewed, discussed, and commented on the Progress reporting on clarification and information available for key questions raised at the 1st Preparatory Meeting of the JCWG and remaining gaps; and listened and discussed technical issues of the Report on the Outcome of the Meeting between MRCS, Lao PDR, and Phou Ngoy Developer on 20 July 2022 and on 5 August 2022 and of the Technical Issues for reviewing proposed project.

The Way forward:

 Meeting between developer and Thailand to be organized as soon as possible; and

 Meeting between MRCS, Lao PDR and Developer on the need to update the additional studies and assessments by developer by using the MRC existing data and information-timeline for this (within a few months).
