Wrap-Up Meeting to review the results of Consultation meeting on the development of flood forecasting and early warning (January 21, 2021)

Phnom Penh: H.E Mr. Watt Botkosal, Deputy Secretary General, Officer-In-Charge of the Project and H.E Mr. Long Saravuth, Deputy Secretary General of the Cambodia National Mekong Committee (CNMC)  attended a Wrap-Up Meeting to review the results of Consultation meeting on the  Deep-Survey for the Project proposal for assistance from the Government of Korea through KOICA on the development of flood forecasting and early warning system and water information system for the three river basins (Sekong, Sesan and Srepok) of Cambodia proposed by CNMC with the Korean Team through a video conference (VIDEO Conference) held from 12 to 20 January 2021. The Meeting was facilitated by Dr. HONG ILPYO, Project Manager, Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology, Korea, and were attended by representatives of ministries and institutions, including CNMC, Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, Ministry of Women's Affairs, and Development Partners, the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank,  KOICA officials in Phnom Penh and officials from the Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology, Korea, numbered 15 participants. As part of the Meeting, from January 18 to 20, the KOICA Team led by Mr. Kang Hwang Wook, Deputy Director of the KOICA Office, visited the project sites along the Sekong and Se San rivers and  Lower Se San 2 Dam  in Stung Treng and Ratanak Kiri provinces, with the coordination of officials from the Provincial Department of Water Resources and Meteorology. After discussing the draft Concept Note Proposal of the project, the Meeting summarized the results with the collection of ideas and opinions from officials from the relevant ministries, institutions and departments and the ideas of support from development partners, as well as determine the additional work for CNMC on its details of additional documents and seeking support from the Royal Government of Cambodia, represented by the Council for the Development of Cambodia. KOICA representatives expressed their support for the project and confirmed that the visit report would be completed next week. According to the KOICA procedure, the project evaluation document will be finalized by the Korean Council in early February 2021, and the results will be submitted to the Ministry of Economy and Finance for consideration and approval and approval by the Korean National Assembly at the end of March 2021.
