First Technical Dialogue Between ASEAN and MRC (August 19-20, 2021)

Kampong Cham: ​Cambodian delegates from ministries and institutions including the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Ministry of Public Works and Transport, Ministry of Mines and Energy, Tonle Sap Authority  And the Cambodia National Mekong Committee participated in the First Technical Dialogue Between ASEAN and the Mekong River Commission (MRC) on  Water Security via Video Conference, co-organized by the MRC Secretariat and the ASEAN Secretariat, with participants from ASEAN and MRC members, and other partners.

The Dialogue aims to provide a forum for sharing experiences and finding common solutions to water security challenges in the ASEAN region, focusing on three key topics: water scarcity, water quality and risks from Climate change and also discussed cooperation and potential support between ASEAN and the MRC, as well as among other partners to work together to improve water security management and governance in the region.

On this occasion, Excellency Chhea Bunrith, Director General of Technical Affairs of the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, was the keynote speaker on the Plenary on the Challenges and Opportunities for Water Security in the Mekong and ASEAN region considering the rapid changing environment.  Excellency Watt Botkosal, Deputy Secretary General of the Cambodia National Mekong Committee, chaired the Session in Panel 1 on the topic: What are the innovative ways to solve water problems, solutions for water scarcity and how to balance  Water demand and Water Resources., and Excellency Pich Dun, Advisor to CNMC, as speaker in the panel 3  which discussion on Solution to climate risks and how to mitigate floods and droughts and how manage saltwater intrusion focused on transboundary flood management jointly by Cambodia and Vietnam in the Mekong Delta.
