Workshop On Challenges In The Mekong Region “Role Of Mekong-Japan Cooperation” (March 18, 2021)

Phnom Penh: H.E. Mr. Long Saravuth, Deputy Secretary General and Mr. Chheang Hong, Director of IKM Department, Cambodia National Mekong Committee (CNMC) attended a workshop on Challenges in the Mekong Region “Role of Mekong-Japan Cooperation” through Video Conference. At the beginning, there was a Keynote Address by Dr. Chhem Kieth Rethy, Member of the Board of Directors of the ASEAN Vision Institute (AVI) and opened by H.E. Mr. Mikami Masahiro, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Cambodia. Being the RGC representative H.E. Mr. Sok Soken, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia shared the Cambodia’s perspective on the progress and Future Direction of Mekong-Japan cooperation.

As a result, the Workshop exchanged views on the Regional and countries water policy, governance, research work, priority activities, perspectives to address water challenges and work directions between countries in the Mekong region and Japan to strengthen cooperation and partnership, civil society participation in governance, and information sharing on the Mekong waters for the sustainability of the Mekong Basin and the well-being of the people using the resources of the Mekong Basin.
